What Is Rakeback
Rakeback is a very simple concept that is quite possibly the most rewarding of all promotions an online poker player will ever take advantage of. Online poker rooms take a small percentage of every real money pot. Called the “Rake”, this is how online poker rooms make their money. Rakeback is when players are returned a percentage of the rake they contribute.
Although the online poker room is taking only a small percentage of each pot in rake, after awhile, it can really add up. If $0.50 is raked from each hand for an hour, with an average of 30 hands per hour, that’s $15.00 in rake over a relatively short amount of time.
Rakeback Methods
There are three ways online poker rooms can calculate rakeback – the Contributed Rakeback Method, the Shared Rakeback Method and the Dealt Rakeback Method.
Contributed Rakeback
The contributed rakeback method is a weighted calculation, meaning that the amount you put into the rake reflects the amount you get out of it. If you contribute 20% of the pot, you have contributed 20% uf the rake. Therefore your rakeback will come from that exact 20% contribution.
An example of contributed method is, if you were to contribute $25 to a pot that totals $75 and the total rake taken was $3 you would be assigned $1 of rake. You put in one third of the pot so you get assigned one third of the rake that the poker room took.

Shared Rakeback Method
Shared rakeback is based on the average rake collected from each contributing player. The total rake is divided among every contributor. So whether you dropped 4% or 40% into the pot, your rakeback will still come from the average rake amount. Shared rakeback is sometimes referred to as “Average Contributed”.

Dealt Rakeback Method
The dealt rakeback method is also based on an average rake, but does not require a player to contribute to the pot. If you are dealt in the hand, you are eligible for rakeback. To get the average dealt rake, poker rooms divide the total rake by all players dealt in the hand.

So you can see how rake can add up as you continue to play online poker. Rakeback gives you back a percentage of the rake that you pay.
For example, let’s say you have a rakeback deal of 30% and over the course of one month you pay $100 of rake (which is pretty easy to do). At the end of the month, you would automatically be refunded $30 into your poker account. The more you play and the more rake you pay, the more money that you will get as rakeback. This money is yours. You can withdraw it. You can play poker with it. You decide.
