Rakeback Tips

If you’ve been reading through our rakeback strategies and other articles, you should have a good idea of what rakeback is, and just how beneficial it can be to your traditional online poker play. In this last section, we’ll cover a few more rakeback tips to bring your game full circle.

Rakeback Tip #1: Get the Right Rakeback

If you haven’t already taken a moment to discover the added benefits of each individual rakeback method, we highly recommend doing so now. Choosing a Rakeback Deal is the first, and most important step in making sure you get the most out of your online poker rakeback.

Each rakeback type – Dealt Rakeback, Shared Rakeback and Contributed Rakeback - is designed to benefit each player type differently.

Rakeback Tip #2: Bankroll Management

Just because you are earning rakeback for every raked hand you are involved in does not mean you should be being playing every hand. If you’re losing money on the virtual felt, online poker rakeback isn’t going to make up for it. At the least, you should be breaking even oat the tables. So long as you are not losing money, you are making money!

Rakeback Tip #3: Table Selection

Choosing the right real money poker table to play at can greatly increase your rakeback earnings. A loose table is highly recommended. The more flops that are seen, the more often you’ll be earning rakeback. This is especially important for Dealt Rakeback earners, since it is not even required to contribute to the pot to earn online poker rakeback. The higher the Viewed Flop Percentage is, the looser the table. For Dealt and Shared Rakeback earners, a high average pot size can also mean more rakeback profits.

Be sure to check the rake schedule of your online poker room. There is a maximum rake cap on all stakes and limits. If you choose a micro-limit table with an average pot size of $10, but a rake cap of $0.20, it isn’t worth it. Try a slightly higher stakes table, where the average rake taken is closest to the rake cap.

Rakeback Tip #4: Playing Players

The ability to read your opponents and exploit weaknesses is a poker strategy any avid online poker player should develop. It will help your standard game, as well as your rakeback earnings. Just predicting a weak hand and stealing blinds is good, but if you can draw that hand to post-flop play before coercing a fold from your opponent, you’ll get the blinds, as well as the rakeback. Pay close attention to how a player acts with a weak and strong hand. Does he call weak hands and raise strong ones, or just the opposite? Is he a repetitive check-raiser? Watch for any consistencies and try to predict the outcome based on such. Once you’re cued in on your opponent, you can easily increase your poker and rakeback profits.

Rakeback Tip #5: Don’t Tilt

The fastest way to lose your entire bankroll is to go on tilt. This occurs when a player loses control of their emotions, often due to a bad beat and/or continuous bad hands. A player can become frustrated and start making bad repetitive decisions. Not only is this bad for your poker game, it’s going to negate all of your rakeback earnings. Online poker games are the worst for enticing tilt, since every bad decision is just a click away, and no one can see your face turning red. Stay calm, take a break and refocus!
